The Dutch Wind Wheel is a project that started in a bar between a group of friends who were talking about creating a new landmark for the city of Rotterdam. The idea behind the design is to combine the London Eye with a traditional Dutch Windmill to create a space where tourists would want visit. The building will hold a hotel, apartments and some other commercial spaces, where visitors can climb to the top and see the entire city of Rotterdam.
The building itself is an integrated system of renewable energies, such as solar and wind. The building is also designed to collect organic waste and produce biogas. The personal interaction between the building and its residents will also be completely automated using modern smart building features to control climate and energy use. Another aspect of the building will also attempt to filter the water in the wetlands that it stands on.
One of the project leaders Duzan Doepel will speak about the concepts of the building and explain more about the integrated systems.
